We keep your business waste's carbon footprint as low as possible.
All waste collected in the borough is disposed of locally.

Where does your commercial general waste go?
- After collection, it’s taken to Northumberland Wharf on the River Thames.
- By barge, the waste travels a short distance to south east London. This cuts down truck use and reduces emissions.
- It goes to an ‘Energy from Waste’ facility that’s the largest of its type in the UK.
- They sort and burn the waste to create electricity sustainably.
- Ash from the process is used to help build roads.
Where does your commercial recycling go?
- Recycling collections go to a recovery facility in east London.
- This facility is powered by 4000 solar panels. It uses state of the art technology to separate the recycling.
- It sorts the recycling into bulk batches (such as plastic, glass or cardboard).
- From there, it’s sent on to various trusted partners to be re-used.
Do you send waste to landfill?
All our waste collections are sent to be re-processed or recycled.
